Boutique Clipping vs. Automated Tools | Kliping

5. oktober 2026
We're talking more and more often about the differences between boutique clipping and automated tools, and we've noticed that many people still aren't quite sure what sets them apart. So we've put together a short, clear overview of the key differences.

With boutique clipping, a whole team takes care of you. Alongside automated screening and artificial intelligence, trained colleagues add and check every item. Jasna, our print reader, goes through a stack of newspapers and magazines every morning. Jaka, our broadcast specialist, makes sure radio and TV transcripts are clean and accurate. Peter, our web specialist, makes sure you don't miss a single online article, not even one behind a paywall. The result is clean, relevant content and client support 24 hours a day, every day of the year. The whole team also handles the technical and administrative side. You probably already know Divna, Danijela, Jure, Primož and the rest of us.

The other option is automated clipping tools, which we also offer at Kliping. These tools automatically collect freely available content from the web, but no one reviews it critically. Media coverage is narrower, support is limited, and editing the clippings is up to the user. That's why they're also cheaper.

Aspect Boutique clipping Automated tools
Online articles Includes content behind paywalls. No paywalled content.
Keyword highlighting Highlighted directly on the clipping. Usually highlighted only in the accompanying text.
Online article clipping Precise clipping of the individual article (no ads or other clutter). Automated capture of the whole page, including ads and other articles.
Print media Wider range of media, including local outlets. Smaller range of media.
Radio and TV Transcripts reviewed and edited, with speakers' names added. Raw, unreviewed automatic transcripts (speakers not identified). Speech recognition errors mean some items may be missing or irrelevant.
Article metadata Complete data on authors, clip length and other attributes. Often incomplete.
Quality control A team of editors removes irrelevant items every day of the year. Daily quality checks. Usually no one does this; you edit the clippings yourself.
Support and administration A team of people handles the technical and administrative side, available 24/7. Limited support; you manage processes and clean up the clippings yourself.
Copyright and archive Agreement with ZAMP (the Slovenian copyright collecting society), regular payment of royalties, own archive in Slovenia. Often neither.

There's nothing wrong with automated tools, of course. But it's only fair to compare apples to apples. If an automated tool's level of service suits you better, we can offer one at Kliping too. Our boutique clipping service is delivered by our team together with Servanta, our advanced platform. Our automated tool is called NewtonOne. If you'd like to see how it works, we'll give you a free, no-obligation trial. If you have any other questions, write to us at info@kliping.si.
